Can a specialized training plan help to increase employee performance, improve business results and even save jobs? Lately we are talking about a labor crisis, while in the last two years we have been seeing increases in the unemployment rate. That's because the classic system of hiring on a job, without the opportunity for professional reorientation when it is no longer valid, no longer works. There needs to be a holistic approach.

According to a BestJobs survey, since the beginning of 2021, most Romanians (55.8%) want to work in a private company, especially in a multinational. Moreover, for eight out of ten respondents, job stability is the main consideration they consider when choosing their next job.

At the same time, due to the way businesses were affected in the pandemic, several industries suffered, thus leading to staff reductions, including among the multinationals present in Romania.

This has led to a rethinking of business models. Acording to a report by PWC, in the autumn of this year, around 78% of senior CEOs in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa anticipate changes in the way they work, but also the development of new business models, which will be supported by investments in digitalisation. In the same report, we note that 37% of CEOs expect staff cuts in the next year, and another 37% say they will hire new staff. These are aspects that can create even more insecurity among employees.

Moreover, the rapid pace at which technology advances and the need to adapt businesses make certain jobs no longer necessary and even disappear. Thus, specialized personnel remain without jobs, while, according to a report carried out by Manpower at the end of this year, 80% of Romanian employers surveyed do not find staff with the desired skills.

In this context, for some companies, reskilling programs can be a solution both for employees, who have job security, but also for employers, who can use their available human resources to grow their business according to new directions.

However, it is not always easy to know exactly what courses and programs are needed to increase performance. Specialized personnel are needed to correctly identify and implement training programs. Most of the time, employees in the company are not specialized in this direction, and the chances of success thus decrease considerably. This is where the need and importance of a training plan developed by specialists in the field comes in.

What a training plan looks like

In the context of a training plan, the needs for acquiring the technical skills appropriate to the business in question are identified and a personalized curriculum is created. Because every business has its own needs, a personalized approach is absolutely necessary.

Each technical training must be designed by specialized trainers with the company. Based on the agreed key objectives, the trainer creates a technical skills development plan adapted to the teams he works with. Emphasis is placed on practical experiences and learning how to solve problems specific to everyday operations. Thus, a smooth transition from the course to new workflows is ensured.

Development plan end-to-end include:

  1. Establishment of the necessary technical skills and objectives
  2. Assessment of current technical competencies
  3. Matching people with the necessary technical skills
  4. Develop a customized technical competition development plan
  5. Practical and personalized workshops
  6. Evaluation and reiteration

In the implementation of this plan, upskilling and/or reskilling components will be included. Within the programmes of Upskilling, new and advanced technical skills are developed, which improve performance, giving people who follow this path an advantage in their chosen career. Through Reskilling, staff develops new skills in order to be prepared for a career change.

Results: These personalized training plans translate into more successful employees, jobs saved by integration into the new career, more trust in the employer, saved financial resources and an improved image of the company.
